Roommates

Mistake #1: Being To Nice

Don't get me wrong, I adore my roommates. They're quirky and fun and we get in all sorts of discussions about politics to why art school costs so much. BUT being in the dorms is not like something you've done before. Remember high school, I know it was a while ago. Remember all the cliques and drama of who you can and cannot be friends with due to whatever people thought separated each-other. Now take the queen bee of each group and throw them in a room together. Conflict. Oh and let us not forget everyone is coming from places all over the country and maybe in your case the world.

You want to get along with your roommates, at least I do. I mean you have to live with them for the next 10 months of your life. You be extra nice trying to make it all work out. WRONG. First and for most you need to lay down ground rules. Trust me you'll get along much better if everyone knows where everyone stands. If not someone will end up being passive aggressive and a huge fight with break out and now you have an awkward living situation where you feel like you can't even be in your own room. Doesn't sound fun to me.

Here are the rules me and my roommates decided we need to live by:

1. Do not touch other people's things. (My casa is  NOT su casa)
2. Do not disturb others while they sleep.
3. Clean up your own mess.
4. Ask if you are bringing others to the room.
5. Be consciences of others schedules. (Some people work at 5 am)
6. Don't touch others food.
7. Don't leave guests alone in room.
8. Wear headphones.
9. No sneaking anyone in after hours. (Don't put all your roommates at risk of getting in trouble for something you want)

Not everyone grew up the same and you all have different ideas of how living together should be but the first thing you need to do is define how you need to live to get through school. That's the ultimate goal right?
